Encoder is an electromechanical device that generates a digital electrical signal (pulse) in response to the movement of the motor shaft it is connected to. It is also a sensing device that monitors the current positions of the connected shaft and provides feedback. The encoder sends a feedback signal that can be used to determine position, number, speed or direction.
